Four things combined decide a diamonds rarity, and therefore it's price. The priority of these four things (commonly known as the four C's), are cut, color, clarity, carat weight.

Cut

Cut is of utmost importance in a diamond because if a diamond is cut improperly, even if it is Mother Nature's most perfect stones, it's beauty will be lost because of poor light refraction.

Well Cut Deep Cut Shallow Cut
Too Deep Too Shallow

Color

Color comes in second because no matter how well cut or clean a diamond is, undesirable color can noticed from a considerable distance.

Clarity

Third on the list is clarity, a descriptive term for the microscopic particles and tiny internal markings in a diamond that make each stone unique. As a matter of fact, it is incorrect to think of these as "flaws" since almost all stones contain them. In fact, you can think of a stone's inclusions as it's "fingerprint", making it unique and identifiable from similar stones.

Carat weight

Carat weight rounds out the list, and obviously, everything else being equal, the larger the stone, the higher the cost.

Incidentally, the larger the stone, the higher the cost per carat.

The usual cost guideline for purchasing a diamond is two months salary.

To many people this seems to be quite a lot of money until they realize this is a once in a lifetime purchase for the woman they love.

As time goes on, the initial cost of the purchase of a fine diamond is forgotten due to the lifelong happiness that your loved one will enjoy from wearing such a beautiful ring.

There are many fascinating aspects pertaining to diamonds, many more that we can list here, but if we can be of any help in educating you about these beautiful gems, please don't hestitate to call us.
